Building a Small Business in Plano, Texas – Start with the Website
Now that you’ve taken the plunge and decided to start your own business, one of the things that should be near the top of your list is your website. Right now you may be saying to yourself, well, I don’t sell anything online so I don’t need a website. That, my friend, is where you make your first mistake.
Why You Need a Website
Society is increasingly moving to electronic mediums to conduct their business as well as their social life. People are using PCs, laptops, tablets and phones to search for what they want. The days of looking up a business in the phone book, that has a higher chance of being found if its name starts with A-1, are long over.
If you want to attract customers, you have to have an internet presence.
Creating a website is nowhere near as expensive as you may think and if you don’t sell anything online, then the complexity of your site drops as well as the cost of creating and maintaining it. So what will an online presence do for you and if you don’t sell online, what could you possibly put on it that would give it value for you?
You can start by establishing a name for yourself. The name of your company represents your brand. If you service your customers well with a quality product or service, they will tell their friends the name of your business and where it’s located. They will, in turn, search the web for your business by that name and location to see if it has the services or products they need. You are now establishing your brand.
Your primary page will give a brief description of your business and should provide the permanent address, email address, phone number and operating hours so potential customers can visit or contact you, even during off hours. This page, commonly referred to as the Landing Page, should also have a way for people to easily see your products or the services you offer. These are called links, and if a potential customer clicks on it, they will be transported to another page that could show pictures or lists of your products. This enables the customer to know right off if you can service their needs.
A good website will take into account that people are increasingly searching for businesses on their phones so the site should be able to give them what they need in a mobile-friendly environment as well. A well-constructed website is probably one of the best investments you can make to grow your new business.
